Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Summary

Under general supervision, the Alarm Technician replaces, inspects, adjusts, repairs, cleans, and tests newly installed and existing fire alarms, intrusion alarms, and CCTV systems, and other associated life safety and security control systems for the College. The technician will work collaboratively with the telecommunications, safety, security, physical plant and maintenance employees for the College. The technician will contribute to the review and approval of planned construction and remodel efforts, with respect to the placement and selection of fire alarm devices. The technician will work closely with the Security Dispatch and safety teams to assist in appropriately responding to fire, intrusion, safety, and security alarms during and after normal business hours.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs functional testing and inspections of existing life safety systems, intrusion systems, fire safety-related ancillary and auxiliary systems. Reports and documents all results, deficiencies, repairs, and problems encountered for database entry and future system upgrades for the improvement of fire service to the facilities.
• Evaluates and determines the requirements for system upgrades, and assists and/or performs small system installations or upgrades within professional qualifications, and expertise.
• Creates and maintains fire system records for all systems of campus, such as record drawings, testing results, and maintenance/repair logs.
• Maintains the CNM Campus Fire Alarm Network infrastructure to ensure optimal operations of the network.
• Troubleshoots network issues, work in conjunction with Campus OIT to develop additional expenditures, correct cabling issues, and problems, and ensure that alarms send the correct information to critical parties, such as the CNM Security Dispatch or the Albuquerque Fire Department.
• Works in conjunction with campus entities and the City of Albuquerque Fire Department and CNM Security Dispatch in responding to fire alarms, and trouble conditions to ensure minimum building downtime, and efficient alarm, and trouble condition diagnosis.
• Reviews plans for remodel and construction projects to ensure systems are compatible with college infrastructure
• Inspects contractor installations of fire alarm systems functions and components.
• Enforces and coordinates contractual, CNM standard requirements, work procedures and code compliance for new installations, and upgrade projects.
• Assists, observes, coordinates and documents final fire alarm system acceptance tests for all new contractor installed fire alarms, suppression systems, elevators, HVAC systems, etc.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimums

• High School Diploma
• Five (5) years of experience with electronics systems pertaining to fire and life safety systems
• A valid ES-3J Low Voltage Electrical Journeyman's License for New Mexico.
• This position requires a unrestricted driver's license.
