This is a limited term position, funded through 6/30/2020 and eligible for benefits. This is an exempt salaried position which requires occasional travel, evening, and weekend work. A successful candidate with have basic understanding of local and federal business taxes and demonstrated understanding of local business licensing requirements and business regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the general supervision of the Small Business Development (SBDC) Center Director, the Business Counselor is responsible for providing small business counseling and training services to new and existing business owners. This includes providing assistance on management principles, accounting, marketing, operations, and obtaining financing. Develops relationships with area lenders and other support services to provide resources to small businesses.
Duties and Responsibilities
•Provides counseling and training services to business owners in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties maintaining accurate records per program rules.
•Timely follow-up with business owners tracking relevant metrics on capital formation, sales increase, number of jobs created and capital infusion in the local economy.
•Assists business owners in the development and implementation of; the lean start-up methodology, business and marketing plans, financial projections, feasibility studies, strategic planning, production processes, facilities development, and loan packaging.
•Conducts industry and market research on behalf of clients.
•Works with the Center Director to develop and implement promotional activities to create awareness in the community regarding center services including CNM services and resources.
•Participates in regional economic development and community activities.
•Collaborates with private-sector businesses, CNM Economic Development Departments, and other economic development organizations to further the economic well-being of New Mexico’s citizens.
•Actively engages in professional and personal development activities per a self-constructed employee development plan.
•Avoids potential conflicts of interest and utilizing time and assigned program resources in a manner consistent with upholding public trust.
•Performs other related duties as assigned.
•Bachelor’s Degree in Business in one of the following areas; Management, Marketing, Finance, or Accounting.
•At least three years: small business ownership or for-profit business management Preferences:
•Experience in commercial lending and/or developing loan packages.
•Experience in developing a network of lenders and community partners.
•Experience and ability developing business plans, financial statements, and other related business documents.
•Experience and ability using standard marketing research methods, tools, and other related resources.
•Knowledge and experience working with local, state, and federal business licensing regulations.
